Welcome to Gilmer Intermediate School where our theme for 2013 is Pirates and "You ARRRRR a Treasure"! We are excited about the new school year and anxiously looking forward to getting to meet our new fifth grade students and invite back our returning sixth graders! At our school we are all about having fun while we are learning, making long lasting friendships and making sure that each student is successful both academically and socially!
Parents are welcome to follow us on Facebook under our Gilmer Intermediate page, this blog, and a new Pinterest and Twitter account that will be set up soon. This blog is a way to showcase the fantastic work our students and teachers do on a daily basis as well as keep parents up to date on events. Bookmark us on your smart phone or favorites bar on your computer, or place your email on the side bar to 'follow us by email' and you will always be up to date on recent post! Dates that are important at the first of our new 2013 school years are as follows:
Meet the Teacher - Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00-6:30
First day of school - Monday, August 26th
***Please check out our 'School Supply' tab at the top of this page for your student's supply list. Also be aware that we have a tab for school menus. Breakfast is always free at Gilmer Intermediate School and served in the cafeteria each day. Students are encouraged to take advantage of our nutritious selections to start their day with. Students always start their day in our cafeteria and go to their first period class at 7:45 each morning. School begins at 8:00 a.m. August menus will be posted as soon as they are available. Please look for the free and reduced lunch forms that must be filled out for all students who want to apply for these programs at the first of the year in your packets.
Parents are also encouraged to visit the Gilmer ISD tab above and click on the tab titled 'Parents' and sign up for their students 'Work and Behavior' Notifications on the 'Parent Portal' section. These alerts will come to your phone or computer and are invaluable in keeping all parents or guardians up to date on your student's grades and behavior.
We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and make the most of the time left with your great student(s). At Gilmer Intermediate we can't wait to make them a part of our community and have our parents/guardians as a valued partner in their education.
Thank you,
Dr. Bobby Rice
Principal
Gilmer Intermediate School
